Grimmer ([email protected]) GUITAR 1: The chords for the verses are always strummed with a slow downstroke near the bridge on the first beat of each measure. They are G, C/G, Dsus4/G, and back to G. At the same time the backup vocalist sings G, C, D, and rests for the 4th measure. G C/G G5 ---------- ----------- ----------- E A D G B e E A D G B e E A D G B e Head _ _ 0 0 _ _ _ _ _ 0 _ 0 _ X 0 0 _ _ Fret 1 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ * _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Fret 2 _ * _ _ _ _ _ _ * _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Fret 3 * _ _ _ * * * * _ _ _ _ * _ _ _ * * The Refrain uses the same chords, but is strummed with the following rhythm pattern: 1 e + a 2 e + a 3 e + a 4 e + a s s s s e _ s e _ s s s s s s s You can mess around with this pattern a little bit as the muse inspires you, but since repetition is what really drives this song, you should mostly stick to it. GUITAR 2: The part that was listed as the guitar into on your web page is basically it. That part is also played during the first two verses. If you want to give your second guitarist a little more to do, they can strum along with the Guitar 1 during the refrain using another chord voicing. I personally like this one (do not strum either E-string): G C/G Dsus4/G Fret 10 _ * _ _ _ _ _ * * _ _ _ _ * _ _ _ _ Fret 11 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Fret 12 _ _ * * * _ _ _ _ * _ _ _ _ * * X _ Fret 13 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ * _ _ _ _ _ _ _ BASS: The meat amp; potatoes of this song, but not too tough to play. You may want to let some of the vocal duties be handled by the bassist (but *not* the spoken word part The bass must stay on the beat, and the spoken vocals must remain independent of it... This can become a lot like the old pat your head and rub your stomache trick). During the into amp; verses, stay put on the low G (yes, you are a petal tone) using the following rhythm: 1 e + a 2 e + a 3 e + a 4 e + a q _ _ _ e _ s e _ (rest) For the refrain, play on G for the first measure, C on the second, and back to G for the next two, using the following rhythm (mess around with it a lot): 1 e + a 2 e + a 3 e + a 4 e + a q _ _ _ e _ s e _ e _ s e _ e _ There are also two bass fills that are used un the refrian, both at the end of a phrase. The first, and more frequest, is this: q e se se e e e |3---3-33-30-1-2| The other is simply a desending G-maj scale: e e se e e e se g |----------------| d |----54-2--------| a |---------5-3-2--| e |3-3-----------5-| These fills can be inserted at will during the refrain, as long as some tasteful restraint is used. ----- BELONG (from the songbook) G: 3x000x Gsus4: 3x001x G5: 3x0033 Intro riff: E-|--------------------------------------------------| B-|--------------------------------------------------| G-|------------0--------------0--------------0-------| x 4 D-|----0-h-4----------0-h-4--------0-h-4----------4--| A-|-5------------------------------------------------| E-|--------------------------------------------------| {The following chords are only strummed once, unless otherwise noted.} G Gsus4 Her ...
